Home For Trees

Singapore’s greening journey began more than 60 years ago with the launch of the first nationwide tree-planting campaign in 1963. Today, as a City in Nature, we aspire to restore, enhance and extend nature in the city.

Building upon past greening efforts, City in Nature aims to make Singapore a more liveable, sustainable and climate-resilient home for all. Some initiatives include Nature Ways which are roadside greenery planted with trees and shrubs to replicate the natural structure of forests, and the OneMillionTrees movement to plant one million more trees together with the community by 2030.

Find out more about our greening efforts and innovative platforms such as the TreesSG and Remote Tree Management System (RTMS) which help to transform Singapore into a City in Nature.

Remote Tree Management System

The Remote Tree Management System (RTMS) is a greenery management model that interprets data from the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology. Using the model, our greenery managers can conduct remote checks for millions of trees to ease the physical burden of tree inspections.

Find out more about how our greenery managers use the RTMS to keep track of trees’ vital statistics.

Rain Tree

An iconic sight with its impressive umbrella-shaped crown, the Rain Tree has leaves consisting of leaflets that fold up in the evenings, earning it the moniker Pukul Lima, which means ‘5 o’clock’ in Malay. Under the national orchid conservation programme, native epiphytic orchids were successfully reintroduced into our streetscapes by affixing them onto the Rain Trees.
