Solar Energy

In a move towards a cleaner, greener future, Singapore is adopting clean sources of energy as part of the Energy Reset Pillar in the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

One such energy source is solar energy. Located along the equator, Singapore is one of the most solar-dense cities in the world today. By 2030, Singapore aims to achieve at least 2 gigawatt-peak of solar energy deployment, equivalent to meeting the electrical needs of around 350,000 households.

SolarNova Programme

We are currently home to one of the world’s largest inland floating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems – the Tengeh Floating Solar Farm, which consists of 122,000 solar panels spanning a land area of 45 football fields. Singapore has also launched the SolarNova programme, a nationwide effort which involves installing solar PV systems on the rooftops of Housing & Development Board (HDB) flats and public sector buildings. To facilitate grid reliability, Singapore is deploying Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to address solar intermittency.
