Identity Corridors
Strengthening the distinctive character and heritage of our city is integral in shaping a home that we cherish. In Singapore, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) identifies and safeguards different places of interest such as identity nodes, monuments, conservation areas, and corridors across the island to strengthen our sense of identity and history.

The concept of Identity Corridors is an initiative aimed at guiding long-term urban planning to retain and enhance distinctive neighbourhoods. Identity corridors are key stretches across Singapore that serve as repositories for our collective memories and have developed into well-loved, delightful places with rich heritage and identity. These corridors are endearing spaces that connect our communities and cultivate a sense of belonging that makes Singapore a more liveable and loveable city.

Rail Corridor
The 24-kilometre Rail Corridor is a former railway line stretching from the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station in the south to Woodlands in the north. Over the years, it has been transformed into a green, recreational spine serving as an inclusive community space that retains the history of the former railway line. Along the corridor, users enjoy community nodes that are activity hubs for social interactions and community bonding.

Southern Ridges and Coast
The Southern Ridges and Coast is a coastal corridor along the Greater Southern Waterfront. There are currently plans to develop the 10-kilometre coastal promenade, extending from Marina Barrage to the Southern Ridges.

Inner Ring
Stretching 12 km-long, the Inner Ring Corridor is made up of historic roads that used to serve as trunk roads easing traffic congestion going into the city centre. Over time, many unique and charming neighbourhoods like Jalan Besar, Tiong Bahru and Newton have evolved along these roads. In the future, the Corridor will continue to serve as a key vibrant conduit that will link existing and future housing areas, key attractions, and recreational options.

Historic East
The Historic East features important main roads like Geylang-Changi Road, East Coast Road and Old Airport Road. Improvements to public spaces have been made in the Identity Nodes of Joo Chiat and Tanjong Katong, as well as urban design areas around Geylang Road and Paya Lebar Central.’

Thomson-Kallang Corridor
The Thomson-Kallang Corridor is made of a web of green corridors, complete with lush greenery and endearing identity nodes. These intertwining corridors will connect and lead our city residents towards the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and beyond.
