Melissa Tan is an established visual artist based in Singapore. Melissa’s works explore a fascination with nature, geography, landscapes and textures. She has previously participated in solo shows and numerous group exhibitions, showcasing her work at prominent international exhibitions and residences including, the Chatou, Ile des impressionnistes in France, Strata Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery in London, and the National Arts Council’s (NAC) Dena Foundation Artist Residency Programme in France. Melissa recently received the Young Artist Award 2023 from the NAC, Singapore.
Paving Paradise reflects the constant upkeep of Singapore’s ever-changing urban landscape. The restructuring of our city reflects the restructuring of our policies to mitigate the threats of urbanisation, highlighting our dream to transform Singapore into a City in Nature.
Our desire to develop harmoniously with the flora and fauna takes shape through our city features such as roads, pathways and bridges which cater for people and animals alike, connecting green spaces within our urban environment.
